You can tell a lot about a woman's waistline...

You can tell a lot about a woman's waistline these days. How so you ask? Without getting a beat down and thrown out of your house? Let' s just hope for your sake she was at the Sag Awards on Saturday night or was watching! There's your free pass!

Any woman who dares yell at you or shoots you some disturbing looks definitely didn't watch the Award show. The ladies of the night definitely drew some major attention to the one spot people dare to look at! Their waistline. Bedazzled in jewels is an understatement. Who would have thought! What a great and inspiring look! The ladies donned vintage diamond and crystal brooches and added that extra sparkle to their gowns, while leaving their ears, necks and wrists very elegant, simple and tasteful. By far, my favorite look of all the award shows to date. How romantic and whimsical! It's nice to see that these days after the trends have become so bold and skin baring, that this can add a little bit of class, which is what we like!

Kate Hudson for starters looked unbelievable, the white dress, the draped Cartier Sautoir down her back-WOW, incredible, classy, sexy, the whole nine! Bravo!

Christina Applegate...Samantha Who?? forget Samantha, we were blown away by her Swarovski crystal embellishment, and to top it off, her Lorraine Schwartz platinum and diamond leaf pin. So fantastical!

Carey Mulligan, someone I wouldn't have expected to, as Rachel Zoe would say "DIE" over, but her pearl and diamond vintage inspired brooch just perfectly added the romance to her gorgeous red Lanvin dress.

Kyra Sedgwick...a body to die for...her crystal flower brooch just sparkled...

and of course, Mariah Carey...obviously a butterfly, but so tastefully done Mariah! We love it!

So of course these woman all have fantastic bodies and make-me-jealous waistlines, but everyone should always pay attention to where their jewels can go!!

Lots of diamonds and rubies!

Martin ScorSEXY!!!!

T
hat's right, Mr. Martin ScorSEXY! What an impression he made on us last night...We always pay such close attention to what the women are wearing but have we really ever taken notice to the men of the ball? not so much my friends...well, then, case settled. The men ROCKED last night at the 67th Annual Golden Globes, ladies, take a seat for a minute, we have some HOT business to discuss!

Martin Scorsexy was honored last night at the Golden Globes with the Cecil B. DeMille Award in recognition of outstanding contribution to the field of entertainment. Actually, we were honored to stare, I mean listen to his delicious speech while ooowing and ahhing at his over sized black glasses and studly stud set...Did you see those studs? We're not talking about the other men, we're talking about the men wearing the amazing, dashing and brilliant stud sets, that we so completely fell in love with! For starters, martin looked divine and the studs just complemented his attire. Colin Firth? another outrageously HAWT man sporting the old school stud look, Will Smith donning a stud set embellished with pearls, Tom Ford, one of the sexiest men alive, he clearly knows how to look sleek and bold no matter what he is in! And even though Robert Downey Junior who is always our sherlock holmes, we appreciate his attempt to pull off this ingenious look, but really sherlock? the studs were a little too out there for us, you should have done your research! but we still love you!

As for the ladies, I mean, clearly all the men have PUT A RING ON IT! We've never seen so many fabulous rings and cocktail rings. BRAVO ladies, I'm absolutely loving the bare neck look!! it's about time, women after my own heart. You'll rarely ever seen me rocking a necklace...there's just something so divine about a bare neck. Unless we're discussing the exception to the rule...24" necklaces, close to your heart...then you're good to go...so for all you ladies wearing the choker necklace (excluding Sophia Loren, we'll always love your style, necklace or no necklace) well, you looked fabulous but not in our top 5! we're loving the ladies who sported the array of rings and fabulous earrings! just to name a few of our favorites... Halle Berry, AMAZING, Penelope Cruz, STUNNING, Anna Paquin SURPRISINGLY GORGEOUS, Julia Roberts-loved the long VCA necklace and how demure was Christina Aguilera!

Till the next award show!!

Lots of diamonds and rubies,

Are you next in line to marry a Jonas brother?

Are you next in line to marry a Jonas brother? A Kaplan brother? A Hoffman twin? Or the only son in the Brown family?

Ladies, we know that YOU know when it's your time! There comes a time in every woman's life when she's been dating her boyfriend for let's say...2 plus years...some are ready before that, some after, but on average, as we all get a little older, it's around that time. You've hit the 2 year mark, celebrated the anniversary, went to a romantic dinner as you waited patiently for him to confess his love to you, pour you some champagne with the ring in it or in it's tiny black box that he has so secretly hidden in his pants so that you're not feeling around his pockets for it...and then he pops the question... with...drumroll....a whopping 20 carat fancy yellow diamond ring set with micropave diamonds around the band! OK, well... not exactly, but we assume this is what you were hoping for...

Ladies, whether you're dreaming of a one carat cushion cut ring, a three carat round brilliant, or you have high hopes for a ten plus carat ANYTHING =), let us know!

We keep all of your dreams on file with all of your information so that when it comes time for you to drop the big hint to your man, all he has to do is call us or email us and we already know what you want! We'll take all of the hard work away from his daily stresses, and it should be smooth sailing from there!

And the best part is...he'll never know you prepped us before HE was READY! It will be our little secret!!

You can email us anything on your wish list!!

Check out my favorite..a little unique, the 10.50 carat rose cut diamond ring!!!

Budgets may be tight...

Budgets may be tight, but that doesn't mean you need to wear an over sized bag dress with no jewels! ladies, it's 2010! time to dress up, feel good and add that extra sparkle to your wardrobe!

What a year 2009 was. An economic recession to say the least, the swine flu outbreak leading to less dates for men and women which obviously means less glitter a girl will purchase....poor Michael Jackson's passing, along with many others...putting those Swarovski crystals to rest...and then some.

It's time to make 2010 the best year we can have. Watch your budget for sure, but keep in mind, it's all about one piece that makes a statement. our philosophy today? Less is more...if any of you know me...I love, love, love jewels, but I am a minimalist! So, what's more perfect then a one piece statement! This is definitely a year to shine. Be safe or bold with a large over sized necklace, or take a few fabulous bangles, stack them up on one wrist! That oversize cocktail ring? break it out!!! go minimal on the other hand and you'll find the perfect balance! Done and done! go get em gals!

Lots of diamonds and rubies,

All I want for Christmas is....

Jewelry!! HAHAH, we're only kidding... We all have our very own wishes for this holiday season...health, happiness, success, tangible items (like jewelry) (wink, wink) or just good friends and company to share the holiday with... Whether or not we actually believe in santa is completely irrelevant at this point, we're just hoping he can either make our wishes come true, or, at the very least have tons of diamonds in his sleigh...maybe even Rudolph will be sporting some jewels this year...I hear his red nose really is a red ruby...hmm...I'm guessing that's why it's so shiny...

Regardless where you are, whether in the cold snow in NY or warming up under the palm trees in Florida, we at 27 Facets are wishing you a wonderful, warm, cozy and loving holiday, surrounded by good friends and family! We wish you a merry Christmas and a very, very happy and healthy New Year! See you in 2010!

Lots of diamonds and rubies,

Tiger's Eye

Don't look so smug Tiger! They say good for the mind, not the body...they say to use it for insight and you'll be a very lucky person.. Tiger's eye is said to cause the mind to focus and to have feelings of oneness and feel more direct in all thoughts...the only thing I'm seeing in Tiger's eye is a whole lot of lies!

Clearly, the tiger's eye we're talking about is a gemstone and not Tiger woods, though he definitely seemed focused on his game. The game of scoring "birdies" if you know what we mean! Let's just say he definitely is working on his "bump and runs, or chip and rolls" in his spare time...

Here's hoping that Tiger can rip the "divot" out of his wife's heart before it's too late...poor elin =(

It's safe to say the "penalty stroke" or strokes has cost Tiger a lot more than his game....

Anywho, let's talk a little about the tiger's eye we know and love...Tiger's eye quartz.

Tiger's eye is a chatoyant gemstone that is usually a metamorphic rock that is yellow- to red-brown, with a silky luster. A member of the quartz group. The gems are usually cut en cabochon in order to best display their chatoyancy. Chatoyancy is an optical reflectance effect seen in certain gemstones. The effect can be likened to the sheen off a spool of silk...PRETTY! The luminous streak of reflected light is always perpendicular to the direction of the fibres. For a gemstone to show this effect best it must be cut en cabochon, with the fibers or fibrous structures parallel to the base of the finished stone. Faceted stones are less likely to show the effect well.

Well everyone, we just had to write about Tiger's eye...it's just as star worthy and news worthy as the other!

Ask the Jewelers!

Ask the jewelers anything you want! We're serious! You can ask us anything you would like... ABOUT JEWELRY THAT IS!

Find out the difference between 10 kt., 14 kt., 18 kt., and 24 kt. gold.
Why some gold is white, yellow or pink.
Find out what we think women want for the holidays...(HINT, HINT...Hanukkah is this week!!!)
Ask us what the difference is between a certified diamond or one that's not...
Ask us what D, flawless means as opposed to H, SI2...oye...

Have you ever wanted to know why platinum makes for a better setting than gold for an engagement ring? or why women prefer bigger stones than smaller... =)

Ever wonder why men like big, over sized watches as opposed to hundreds of years ago, when men and women wore small sized faces?

How about how to sell your grandmother's diamond you found in your parent's safe...sell it at auction or to a private jeweler, or hold on to it until the market improves?

What about how in this crazy world, Christie's, Sotheby's, Doyle's, Philip's and Bonham's and Butterfields still manage to sell millions of dollars of jewels...

Here's a good one...what kind of jewelry has the best resale value. I bet you have not even thought about reselling...that's not so taboo anymore friends...Look at auction houses...do you know what has the highest resale value besides diamonds? Signed pieces, like Cartier, Van Cleef and Arpels, Buccellati, Rolex, Patek Philippe...etc...

The point of this lovely blog is to expand your knowledge of jewels! There's so much to know, so much intricate detail involved in one tiny little piece that could be worth a more than you know...and there's so much history involved!

Again, feel free to ask us anything! well...not ANYTHING!

Lots of diamonds and rubies, and why not... sapphires too!

Amber and Jen
